AED provided a full scope of service for this design and build CLT project in the Pentland Hills south of Edinburgh.

AED provided initial structural advice to the architect and introduced CLT as a potential construction technology for the project. We advised on procurement and project timeline issues to facilitate the smooth implementation of the use of CLT.

We then carried out the site investigation for the building; designed a raft foundation to allow flexibility in the positioning of the superstructure walls and carried out scheme design of the building for costing purposes, including drainage design and external works.

AED then completed final design and detailing of the building for building warrant, including the design of the CLT panels themselves, full detailing of all connecting metalwork and such steel members as were locally required, for example around the dormer windows.

The outcome was an extremely successful building, completed on time and on budget, and a delighted client.
