We would prefer someone with an engineering degree but we recognise that good candidates for this type of work can come from diverse backgrounds so this is not critical. More important is an interest in this type of work and some proven track record, particularly in the design of steel to steel connections.

The position is nominally based in Glasgow or Edinburgh with negotiable hours. However, AED is a modern company, fully equipped to make home-working practical for individuals with the correct motivation and attitude. A small amount of paid travel is to be anticipated. Software training will be provided to the successful candidate but a degree of computer literacy and aptitude is expected.

Pay rate is competitive and we offer an excellent company pension, flexible working hours, paid leave for charity work, a healthy lifestyle expenses scheme and Cyclescheme participation for permanent staff.

Applications are encouraged from people:

  • wanting home working
  • seeking “4 over 5” day arrangements
  • returning to work after maternity
  • for whom childcare limits the length of the working day
