July 2015 – AED Ltd are proud to announce that we have been shortlisted for Engineer of the Year in the Structural Timber Awards 2015 for our project at 217 Rossal, Rogart with Carbon Dynamic.

June 2015 – There’s more: Zero Waste Scotland’s Resource Efficiency Award for Arcadia.

June 2015 – The award tally is still rising with the addition of the Wood for Good/Forestry Commission Scotland Award for the Best Use of Timber for Arcadia.

June 2015 – We have just won the the RIBA National Award for Scotland and the RIAS award for Arcadia! This national recognition reflects the time and effort put into this project by the whole design team over a period of several years in order to deliver genuine excellence for the client in this delightful building.

May 2015 – Our Arcadia Nursery project has also won the Scottish Design Awards for Educational Building of the year! Read more about the project here.

April 2015 – a new job is on our Jobs page!

March 2015Arcadia Nursery has won the Edinburgh Architectural Association Wood Award 2015 The project was also nominated for Building of the Year in the same awards, for which a Commendation was awarded. We are absolutely delighted with this!

February 2015 – Alan Stein has joined AED as our new senior technician in Glasgow. Alan further strengthens an already strong team with excellent Revit and CAD skills. It’s great to have him in the team.

January 2015 – AED are part of the winning team for the RIBA’s Sessay Hub open competition, together with Sutherland Hussey, Gross Max, Building Cost Consultants and AECOM. See the RIBA winners page and the Sessay Community website.

11 December 2014 – Our Arcadia project has been short listed for the BREEAM 2015 awards based on the high scoring design stage assessment.

November 2014 – Our progress towards BIM Level 2 compliance for 2016 is advancing well and we are now offering clients and collaborators full Revit integration on projects meeting suitable criteria.

6 November 2014 – The RIBA Journal has featured our project In Memory in its Power of Remembrance special by Hugh Pearman.

April 2014 – We are now offering structural glass design and specification in-house including: structural glass members such as beams & fins; glass floors; handrails and balustrades; single, double and triple glazing; full height glazing; glazed doors and screens. All in accordance with IStructE guidance, the Glazing Federation manual and pr eN 13474.

April 2014 – Michael Stewart has joined AED as our new structural engineer. We’re really pleased Michael has come to AED and are looking forward to working with him. Initially in Edinburgh, Michael will be bringing his breadth of experience and personable manner to heading up our Glasgow office full time in 2015.

October 2013 – Senior technician Kevin McGaff has joined AED. Kevin brings considerable skill and experience to AED’s drafting capability.

September 2013 – Izabela has moved on from AED to follow other opportunities and we wish her well.

July 2013 – Our servers, email and network have been upgraded with the assistance of OneStopIT.

May 2013 – We have move office space within our current building, doubling our seating area.

March 2013 – Elspeth Bostock has joined AED as administrator. Among other things Elspeth will be looking after all aspects of our financial operations, hr and office management.

February 2013 – AED were audited by Structural Engineer’s Registration Ltd and subsequently approved to continue with design certification activities.

October 2012 – Izabela Westfal has joined the team as a structural engineer.

August 2012 – AED are now able to offer in-house design of steel hollow sections connections to CIDECT rules.

June 2012 – As part of the team led by Malcolm Fraser Architects, AED are pleased to have been appointed as structural and civil consultants for the new children’s nursery at the King’s Buildings campus, Edinburgh University.

April 2012 – Jenn Hutchinson has accepted our offer of employment as a graduate engineer with AED and will be starting with us this month.

10 March 2012 – Our website and email hosting have been moved to a new provider, with the objective of improving web page response times. Feedback is welcome. Thanks to Iain Wilson of Blot Design for making this happen so smoothly.

23 May 2011 – We are delighted to welcome Jim Bradford – to the practice. Jim is a very well known and respected Scottish engineer, being a former director of both Kirkman & Bradford and SKM Anthony Hunt. Jim has many notable building projects to his name including: The Bank of Scotland at The Mound (IStructE International Heritage Awards, finalist 2004), the Adam Ferguson Building, the Bank of Scotland Chief Office in Glasgow, the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary Pavilion Refurbishment, the Bank of Scotland Computer Centre and the Bank of Scotland Visa Centre. Jim reviewed heritage structures globally for SKM and brings many valuable skills to AED across the practice’s various fields of endeavour.

24 January 2011 – cut/fold 01, the first in our promotional series is out today. A downloadable version will be available later this year.

8 September 2010 – The Concrete Society visited Rosyth Dockyard today and we went along to see the progressive demolition of the Admiralty Oil Fuel Reserve Bunker – one million tonnes of reinforced concrete.

13 August 2010 – In response to regular queries from clients we have added a page clarifying some of the issues around building warrants and design certification.

2 August 2010 – We are pleased to announce the launch of our new website. We hope you enjoy the content. Many thanks to our web and graphic designers Helen Wyllie and Cavan Convery. Thanks also go to Rhona Gilmour and Iain Wilson.

May 2010 – ‘In Memory’ by Nathan Coley, for which we provided structural engineering services, opens at Jupiter Artland.

December 2009 – We are pleased to welcome John Wylam, formerly of SKM Anthony Hunt, Kirkman & Bradford and Mason Pittendrigh to AED. John’s considerable experience in all aspects of structural engineering will be a great asset to the practice.

May 2009 – AED is established by Tim Hetherington in our Darnaway Street office.
